Artic Blast

Even in the sunshine state things can get pretty wild when it comes to weather. A mass of freezing cold air hit us last night and the temps went down to the 40′s. I know it’s not a big deal for those living up north, but for us it’s a big change especially in mid November. I think this winter is going to be bitter for it started early so I need to get used to it again after living in the tropics for four years

Right now the temp is running in the low 60′s with the windchill around the 50′s. Brrrr….. Tonight will be lower, yikes! Feels good though. Time to get those heavy jackets out!

Stormy Weather

On a previous post, I shared pictures of the sunset taken from my window, now I’m sharing the beautiful storms we get here in the “sunshine state.” These storm come in every afternoon during the rainy season which last all summer long. They are magnificent and frightening at the same time. Some come with thunder and lightning, some with just rain or just lightning with no rain. I will add more on a regular basis. Stay tune

Hurricane Irene

Although I no longer live in Puerto Rico, my family lives there and as of today, except for a cousin, I have not being able to contact them. The lines are down and according to my cousin, there is no electricity and very little water. Knowing how bad the infrastructure is down there, I doubt the services will be restored soon, especially to the mountains. According to the officials it could take weeks before everything is back to “normal”

Irene was a cat one when it made landfall in the southeast, crossing the small 100 x 35 speck of land and coming out through the northwest, but the tail caused more damage than the storm itself, lingering for a day or two after the center was way over the water. Unfortunately, the county were my family lives was one of the hardest hit and by living way up the mountains the conditions duplicate

And the hurricane season is just starting. I just pray other storms will move to the north before hitting the Caribbean. But again, nature has a mind of its own and is powerful and unpredictable

As it came out of the island all eyes were in Florida, but apparently we just dodged the bullet and the effects of a now mayor storm will not be felt here. I’m grateful for that but I feel for the people all over the East Coast were Irene is expected to go

I wanted to share with you my readers some of the images of the damage a small hurricane caused in the island. You can only imagine what would happen if a mayor hurricane makes a direct hit

Nature’s Fireworks

Nature is a tad ahead of the 4th of July with this amazing show. No rain or thunder, just lights. It started 30 minutes before the 7 minute video and lasted 45 minutes after. Altogether, close to 90 minutes of pure wonder. BTW, the “static” you hear are the sprinklers of the apartments in full force
